Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon

The Speedmaster was born in 1957 and earned the name “Moonwatch” when it reached the Moon in 1969. The Dark Side of the Moon is the legend’s contemporary and bold interpretation. Named after the face of the Moon that can never be seen from Earth, this watch displays Omega’s mastery of ceramic in its purest form. Here, the Speedmaster’s familiar silhouette is reshaped through the depth of a single material: black ceramic.

Measuring 44.25 mm in diameter and 15.09 mm in thickness, the case is crafted from polished and brushed black ceramic. Ceramic stands out for its resistance to scratches and a colour that does not fade over time. The tachymeter scale on the polished black ceramic bezel is crafted in Liquidmetal™. Beneath a sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides lies the polished black ceramic dial. The hour and minute hands, subdial hands and bevelled indexes are crafted in 18K white gold and filled with light green Super-LumiNova that emits a green glow. The red tip of the PVD white gold-plated chronograph hand stands out against the dark ground. Small seconds sit at 9 o’clock, a subdial combining the 60-minute and 12-hour recorders at 3 o’clock, and a date window at 6 o’clock.

At the heart of the watch runs Omega’s automatic chronograph calibre 9900 with column wheel and Co-Axial escapement. Equipped with a silicon balance spring and two barrels mounted in series, the movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a 60-hour power reserve. Its Master Chronometer certification by METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, also covers magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss. The time-zone function allows the hour hand to be adjusted independently when travelling. The lunar surface pattern on the underside of the black rubber strap is a hidden detail that brings the watch’s story to your wrist.
