The Speedmaster was born in 1957 and, after passing NASA’s demanding tests, became the official watch of the space programme. In 1969 it reached the Moon with Apollo 11, earning the name “Moonwatch”. Measuring 42 mm in diameter and 13.18 mm in thickness, the asymmetrical 316L stainless steel case carries the Speedmaster’s renowned silhouette. The anodised aluminium bezel allows speed measurement with its tachymeter scale based on 1,000 metres. The “dot over 90” on the scale is a historic detail well known to collectors. Beneath the Hesalite crystal with the Omega logo at its centre lies the black step dial. On the dial, three subdials for small seconds, the 30-minute recorder and the 12-hour recorder maintain the Speedmaster’s symmetrical and legible layout. The solid caseback bears an embossed Omega seahorse medallion.

At the heart of the watch runs Omega’s manual-winding chronograph calibre 3861. Equipped with a Co-Axial escapement, a silicon balance spring and a free-sprung balance, the movement is certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology. The calibre offers a 50-hour power reserve and magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss.
