Speedmaster First OMEGA in Space
Ref.: 31030405006001
The Omega Speedmaster “First OMEGA in Space” pays tribute to the first Omega to travel into space, on 3 October 1962. Astronaut Walter Schirra wore his own Speedmaster CK 2998 during the Sigma 7 mission. This model revives the elegant proportions of that historic watch in a compact 39.7 mm case. The “Alpha” hands on the grey-blue dial, the vintage Omega logo and the aluminium bezel with its “dot over 90” detail carry the spirit of the 1960s into the present day. A flat-link steel bracelet and the manual-winding Master Chronometer calibre 3861 unite the legend with today’s standards of precision.

The Speedmaster’s journey into space began before the Moon. On 3 October 1962, during the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury programme, astronaut Walter Schirra entered orbit wearing his personal Speedmaster CK 2998 on his wrist. With this, it became the first Omega to go into space. The “First OMEGA in Space” honours this pioneering moment. The watch reinterprets the more compact and elegant Speedmaster design of the pre-lunar era with today’s technology.
Measuring 39.7 mm in diameter and 13.38 mm in thickness, the polished and brushed stainless steel case remains faithful to the balanced proportions of the CK 2998. The black aluminium bezel pays tribute to the historic model with its tachymeter scale and “dot over 90” detail. Beneath a Hesalite-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the inside lies a CVD-coated grey-blue dial that echoes some 1960s CK 2998 dials. The “Alpha” hour and minute hands filled with vintage Super-LumiNova, the white-varnished “Baton” chronograph hand and applied indexes lend the dial a warm nostalgia. The 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, the 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock and the small seconds at 9 o’clock form the Speedmaster’s classic three-register layout. The vintage Omega logo appears on the dial and crown.
The seahorse medallion on the caseback bears the engravings “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962”. At the heart of the watch runs Omega’s manual-winding chronograph calibre 3861. Equipped with a Co-Axial escapement, a silicon balance spring and a free-sprung balance, the movement is certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology. It offers a 50-hour power reserve and magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss. The flat-link steel bracelet with Omega’s patented comfort adjustment system and foldover clasp complete the watch’s vintage character with everyday comfort. It is a timepiece in which every detail rests on a decision, and every second on a legacy. As an authorised Omega retailer, Aykach presents this masterpiece with a guarantee of authenticity and invites you to discover it in person at its showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.
